On a road trip to the southwest, I spent one of the nights in Phoenix, Arizona. I had never witnessed such a clear luminous sky before filled with so many twinkling stars. As soon as I got back to my studio in New York City I made this piece. The Southwest holds a special place in my heart and that trip has led to many paintings.
